About the role:

As part of our expansion into the Value-Added Services (VAS) and Messaging (SMS/Shortcode) segment, we’re looking for a VAS SMS / Shortcode Engineer — a driven, technically grounded, and innovative professional who’s ready to build and optimize next-generation messaging systems.

What you'll do:

• SMPP / Messaging Infrastructure:
  Design, implement, and maintain SMPP-based SMS gateways for large-scale, high-volume messaging systems.
  Manage SMPP connections with telecom operators and partners, ensuring stability, performance, and uptime.
  Work directly with telecom providers, aggregators, and enterprise clients to establish and manage SMPP binds.
  Collaborate with Cloudtalk’s Tech partners to understand and maintain the Aggregator Messaging Platform.
  Manage gateway configurations, ensuring proper routing and messaging workflow performance.




• API & Software Development:
  Develop, deploy, and integrate APIs (REST/SOAP) for message delivery, analytics, and reporting services.
  Develop automation scripts and monitoring tools to optimize system performance and delivery workflows.




• Network & Security Engineering:
  Configure and maintain VPN tunnels (IKE/IPsec, SSL, WireGuard) for secure message routing and integrations.
  Manage VPNs, firewalls, and routers, ensuring end-to-end service security.
  Handle mail server configurations, firewall policies, and routing within a secure network environment.




• Monitoring, Troubleshooting & Analytics:
  Monitor and troubleshoot delivery issues, messaging latency, and routing errors
  Analyse delivery receipts, logs, and CDRs to identify and resolve failures or performance bottlenecks.




• Project Delivery & Collaboration:
  Participate in end-to-end project delivery — from concept through development, testing, deployment, and support.

Core Competency Area

• SMPP & SMS Gateway Expertise – Proven experience working with SMPP protocol and integrating SMSCs.

• API Integration & Development – Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, and SOAP for messaging systems.

• Telecom Protocol Knowledge – Understanding of messaging flows, SS7/SIGTRAN (optional), and telecom architecture.

• Linux Systems – Proficiency in Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS, Debian) environments with scripting experience (Bash, Shell, Python, or Perl).

• VPN & Security Technologies – Hands-on experience with IKE/IPSec, SSL, and WireGuard VPNs.

• Networking Skills – Strong grasp of TCP/IP, routing, firewall configurations, and traffic flow optimization.

• Troubleshooting Tools – Familiarity with Wireshark, Postman, or similar network and API analysis tools.

• Database Management – Basic experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.

• Automation – Ability to automate workflows and routine tasks using scripts or tools.

• Analytical & Problem Solving – Strong diagnostic and fault-isolation skills under pressure.

• Project Management – Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects with minimal supervision.

• Communication – Excellent written and verbal communication with documentation discipline.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.

• Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in SMS gateway engineering, telecom VAS, or messaging platforms..

• Relevant certifications in Linux, Networking, or API Development will be an added advantage.
